About Kayla Jean Gordon
For the last 6 years, I have lived and worked in the Dallas, Texas area and currently a junior at The University of Texas at Dallas. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2018 with a Bachelor's of Science in accounting and finance.
Accounting and finance is appealing to me due to the challenges both these industries offer. Organizations are seeking experts who are willing to work with all departments throughout a company to develop strategic recommendations and help to make financial decisions that will overall benefit the company. These fields also require a person who is willing to educate themselves and others with the current rules and regulations of each of these industries.
With my professional skills and educational background, I am looking forward to using my expertise to work with a team of other experts to problem solve and analyze financial data that will give my company a competitive advantage as well as advance myself in the world of accounting and finance.

Resume
Walt Disney
"All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them."
Rescue Animals
In 2016, I discovered a 5 week old puppy abandoned in a crate on the side of the road. Without a second thought, I pulled over and picked up this poor puppy and brought him immediately to the veterinarian. After 4 weeks of medication, I nurtured him back to health. Although I was not financially prepared to adopt an animal, I analyzed my finances and made a quick decision that overall benefited both his life and mine. Brucie is now 10 months old and healthier than ever. He has inspired me to volunteer to help other rescue animals find happy homes as Brucie has found with me.
Social Team Builder
While working at Cigna, I have had the wonderful opportunity of working with experts, who work hard to provide the best customer service in our industry. Our team is able to keep up with our demanding tasks with a smile by continually relying on each other to work as a team. In order to ensure we continue to strive as a team, I worked to develop team events that we can enjoy together outside of the office environment. In the last year, I help coordinate our team to participate in fun activities such as golf, bowling, and a Thanksgiving potluck.
Interests
Marketing Plan
Class: Marketing
This project required our team to develop a marketing plan for a product or service that would be able to marketed to the local Dallas area. Our team developed a plan to develop a coffee shop called Grumpy Joe’s which would be located down the block from UTD and would be marketed toward students of UTD. All of our products would be purchased from local vendors to encourage local business growth. Grumpy Joe’s differed from other coffee shops because it offers competitive prices to corporate coffee shops with a bit of an edge. Students could come to our coffee shop 24-hours a day to purchase our products while also have the ability to study or play board games and socialize with other students.

Business Plan/Mock Presentation to the Dallas Chamber of Commerce
Class: Business Communications
The group project entailed creating a mock presentation to the Dallas Chamber of Commerce to obtain funding for a non-profit event to help visually disabled students in the Dallas Independent School District. Our team pretended to partner with Cigna Insurance and a non-profit visual disability company to create an event to earn money to donate to the DISD to purchase technology for visually disabled children. We researched and confirmed that DISD has low funding for visual disability technology and determined that there was a major need for new technology. We created a comedy event that guests would purchase tickets to and while enjoying stand-up comedy would also learn about children with visual disability and how their money will help students in the Dallas school district. Our business plan provided analysis of micro and macro-level metrics that show a return on investment of 500%.
